Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan quite
often than not has been the self- anointed conscience keeper and beholder of
moral rectitude,butthis time seems to have gone overdrive in venting his
personal grudge against His Ex-Lordship Arun Mishra’s appointment as Chairman
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Sh. Prashant Bhushan over the years
seems to have characterised himself as being the sole certifying agency of probity
and ethicsfor appointments to any Constitutional Posts, naysaying of such
privilege to him is bound to invite his vitriol; unfortunately more often than
not, his tirades had been selectively targeted,anchored by his personal
preferences and frequently to create sensationalism to remain in news. Advocate
Bhushan in targeting people often misplaces the adage ‘what is sauce for goose is sauce for gander’, his latest tirade against
the appointment of Ex-Supreme Court Judge (Retd.) Arun Mishra as chairman,
National Human Rights Commission is an extension of the said opinionated
arrogance. Advocate Prashant Bhushan terms Sh. Arun Mishra’s appointment as death knell of protection of Human Rights,
his preposterous comments have triggered massive outrage by various lawyers
association and All India SC/ST Lawyers Association sent a notice dated 8th
June, 2021 to Advocate Prashant Bhushan questioning the propriety of his running
down Sh. Arun Mishra andamongst others canvassing for another Retd. Supreme
Court Judge Deepak Gupta for the position of NHRC Chairmanship. The notice by
All India SC/ST Lawyers Association essentially questions the motive of
Prashant Bhushan of such canvassing for Justice (Retd.) Deepak Gupta,who in the
notice is alleged of shallow knowledge of legal jurisprudence, perfunctory
approach towards Judicial Functions, when he was in office, and his repeated Trampling
of the Settled Position of law, Stealing public records, Forgery etc… apparently
to favour some vested interests. The notice comprises of a comparative chart
between Sh. Arun Mishra vis-à-vis Sh. Deepak Gupta, which makes apparent that
Sh. Deepak Gupta isa repetitive transgressorto the fundamental rights of
citizens rather unfit to Chair NHRC.
The notice of All India SC/ST Advocates
Association also cites Justice (Retd.) Gupta of being an accused in a contempt
petition against him and is otherwise accused of arrogance to advocates and
even refuses to acknowledge his misdemeanour even when brought to his notice,
contrastingly Justice (Retd.) Arun Mishra has no qualms in tendering apology
publicly for having threatened a lawyer of initiating contempt proceedings
against him.
The notice expresses its gratitude to
the Government for having chosen Justice (Retd.) Arun Mishra instead of Justice
(Retd.) Deepak Gupta.
The notice finally urges Advocate
Prashant Bhushan to withdraw his uncharitable remarks towards Sh. Arun Mishra.
